how do we feel about this?

So, Fame comes out in a few weeks, and I've been trying to figure out how I feel about the whole thing. I LOVE the 80s-tastic original, and normally I'm not a huge fan of remakes, since they are generally unnecessary and more often than not do not stand up to the originals anyway. But Fame, being the music and dance filled extravaganza it is, is throwing me for a loop. So let's make a list to try to figure this thing out.

1. The movie seems to have attracted some pretty respectable actors. Megan Mullally! Kelsey Grammer! Bebe Neuwirth! And Debbie Allen is back! That has to be a good sign, right?

2. This trailer (which I haven't yet seen on TV) is awesome!

3. There's DANCING!

4. Even if it is bad, it must at least be entertaining? I happen to like guilty pleasure movies, anyway.

So maybe that was less of a make-a-decision list and more of a justification list, but for better or worse, it seems I am leaning toward seeing this movie. What do you think? Am I a traitor to purism and originality? Or do you get it, too?

dude, i'm so out of it (no cable) i didn't even really know/remember there was a remake.

thanks for reminding me!

sometimes i can be a hardcore purist (i can't believe they're remaking footloose?!?! is that still happening??), but for some reason it doesn't really bother me with this one.

especially because of the frasier crane, i mean kelsey grammer factor. me LOVES HIM.

i'd go with you if i, er, didn't live 3000 miles away...
