1) The students (or most of them) left for March break on Friday, which means my home will be free of teenagers for three whole weeks. This campus is a completely different place when the students leave, and frankly we teachers left behind feel a little giddy and teenaged ourselves, like we've been left with our parents' houses all to ourselves and can throw parties. Jeremy and I have already spent three quality nights just hanging out at other faculty members' houses, enjoying not having to worry about what the kids are doing or if we're being too loud during study hall. We all have really been needing this break.
2) I threw a baby shower yesterday, and it actually went really well and was a lot of fun. I was not at all stressed out during the preparation, and that may be the first time that has ever happened. A lot of people came to the shower and gave Emily, the mom-to-be, tons of great gifts, and I think she really enjoyed herself and was happy that so many people are excited for her. There are seven babies due on this campus in 2009, so this place is like baby central right now, which I personally think is awesome. The anticipation is getting kind of intense. As one of the women at the shower said yesterday, "I'm sick of all of these women being pregnant. I just want a baby to play with already." April and May (and August) will be exciting months here).
3) The weather was gorgeous this weekend, and after a long and cold winter, we were practically giddy the past two days in 60 degree weather. It's raining and cold now, but somehow even that is nice on a day off. It makes me want to cook and do other creative and domestic things.
4) Our girls' basketball team won the New England Championship title yesterday. Absolutely amazing! Those girls form such a great team, and they (and their coaches) have worked so hard this season. They completely deserve the title, and I hope they realize what a great thing they have done.
5) I finished a baby quilt yesterday (see the shower above). It's been a long project, but it was really enjoyable, and for the most part I was really happy with the outcome (although I need to work on my stitching and really need a quilt frame). I enjoy being able to create something totally from scratch, and I'm looking forward to making more of them (and there will be many more). Here is the one I just finished:
There have been a few not so great things happening this week, too, but I'm going to ignore them for now. I'm sure they'll come up again later.
