A few hours into the snow storm, a tree fell across the road and knocked our some power lines. Not an unusual situation, but it knocked out all the power to our campus, and that's the kicker: those 350 kids. So, after 24 hours without power or heat and a diminishing supply of water, we told any kid who could go home to go. We have about 80 left, boys sleeping in the library and girls all in the one heated dorm.
It's a pain, yes, much like the freezing shower I took last night, but, I am so, so grateful for:
the massive generator that is keeping the dining hall running and thereby feeding the kids and all of us
all of the people on campus who continually offer firewood, freezer space, and warm showers to those who don't have them
kids who haven't complained, not even once
flashlights, candles, and blankets, blankets, and more blankets

Stay warm! When do they expect to get you all back up and running?
They briefly had power on for ten minutes today but then it disappeared after the crews left. Apparently, that means we've been moved to the bottom of the list, so now they're saying Friday. We're in the process of trying to ship the kids off to places that are more fun and actually warm.
Here's my vote...go to Brentwood!
I can't go to Brentwood, even though we are canceled through Thursday now; I still have to be in the office. But, my dorm has power again!
Oh well....glad the dorm has power now, though.
